Welcome to Knight Inlet Grizzly Bear Viewing Tours at Knight Inlet Lodge in beautiful British Columbia, Canada. Enjoy one of the premier grizzly bear viewing holiday spots in the world, set amidst the dramatic snow-capped peaks of Canada's rugged coastline.

Located 80 kilometres, or 50 air miles, north of Campbell River, British Columbia, is a wild and remote area of the Pacific Northwest known as Knight Inlet. Tucked into Glendale Cove 60 kilometres from the mouth of the inlet is our floating wilderness resort called Knight Inlet Lodge.

Glendale Cove is home to one of the largest concentrations of grizzly (brown) bears in British Columbia. It is not uncommon for there to be up to 50 bears within 10 kilometres of the lodge in the peak fall season, when the salmon are returning to the river.

Knight Inlet Lodge is the place to visit for a grizzly bear viewing holiday.

Grizzly Bear Viewing tours Spring Through Fall

The grizzly bears are abundant in the fall but this is not the only season that grizzlies frequent the area around  Knight Inlet Lodge. Starting in April, both black and grizzly bears begin emerging from hibernation and head to Glendale Cove and the estuary to feed on the succulent new spring growth. This is a great time for watching grizzly bears as they go about their daily lives.

Even in mid-summer, when many of the bears have moved into the surrounding timber clearings to feast on berries, we usually are watching several bears each day as they move in and around the estuary and along the logging roads.

We Offer A Variety Of Tours At Our Wilderness Lodge

In addition to grizzly bear viewing or watching tours, Knight Inlet Lodge offers additional tours to resort guests. Each adventure tour or cruise offers a unique, up-close-and-personal view of this spectacular west coast rainforest region of Canada. A low to moderate level of physical fitness is required for all tours including the ability to walk approximately 100 - 200 meters on uneven and potentially slippery shoreline. If you have any concerns please contact us prior to booking for a more detailed description.

  • Marine Wildlife & Whale Watching Tours - May to mid-October - marine wildlife watching tours. From around the midle of July until the end of September (or when the whales depart our area) this tour features whale watching in the world renowned Johnstone Strait, an area frequented by 16 different pods of killer whales and rated as one of the world's best spots to observe and photograph these magnificent Orcas.
  • Inlet Cruises - The Inlet Tour is a beautiful scenic cruise that takes in the natural wonders of Knight Inlet -- tremendous waterfalls plummeting out of sheer rock faces, ancient glaciers with trails carving through the mountains and wild, remote rivers teeming with life.
  • Rainforest Walk - This is one of the few pristine watersheds left in this area. We will walk up the valley to large moss-covered old growth trees and stunning waterfalls. Your guide will inform you about the rainforest and the various plant life that abound.
  • Sea Kayaking Tours -Drifting quietly in your sea kayak, you will witness these powerful creatures as they quietly forage amongst this fresh sedge growth in the protected waters near our lodge. We are frequently fortunate to see new grizzly bear cubs, fresh from their winter den.
